Portrait of an Artist as a Young Woman
My 2025 NYU Photojournalism Intensive Capstone Project, where I photographed the daily life of 21-year-old painting student Chloe Rady for two weeks.

Art has always been Chloe’s way to understand herself better. It is her career and her therapy.

Chloe’s room is purposefully decorated to reflect her creative process and inspirations.

“I’ll make an image, won’t be thinking about anything, and then I can go back and look at it and understand myself through analyzing the imagery I choose to depict.”

Chloe’s collections of photo books and magazines, where she sources most of her inspiration.

Chloe and her latest piece, inspired by Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s “The Yellow Wallpaper.”

Chloe walks to the studio she works at in the NYU Barney Building, where she paints.

Many of the faces Chloe paints mimic her own, with differences in character.

Chloe’s favorite musicians to play while working are Air and Lana Del Rey.

After sitting and painting all day, Chloe spends her evening dressing up and dancing around in her room.
